known for a day to celebrate with family, friends and loved ones, one begins to ponder upon the meaning of the word thanksgiving.
a time to give thanks to the people we love.
but, it goes beyond, for we are able to give thanks to the people we love because they exist in our lives. to give thanks to them is to honor their life, their parents and ancestors who have come before, to be thankful for all who are connected to this precious person for our paths have crossed with such special beings because of them.
the food we celebrate with comes from the earth, which, through many lifetimes, conceived the right balance of nutrients to sprout new life that nourishes our bodies.
to the farmers who have spent countless hours, days, weeks, months, years, with each ingredient in our dishes so that many can enjoy the fruit from their labor.
even the inanimate objects of plates, spoons, forks, knives, table, all come from a source, created to allow us a way of enjoying a delicious meal with one another.
to those who enjoy livestock in their meal, a life given up to become a part of us. we must honor and truly thank them for their sacrifice for now our energies are one.
thanksgiving is not only a time to be thankful for the things that are right in front of us, but a moment to remember that we are one, to connect back to the true meaning of life and give thanks to all that sustains us, for without each element, we would not have the opportunity to experience, let alone exist, in our current world.
